My Funny Valentine
| February 14, 2012 | Posted by thesocialfrog under Holidays |
Did you have a good Valentines Day? Whether you celebrate or not, I do hope you had a wonderful day! I spent my day making yummy sweet treats for Daniel! I could not wait for him to get home as I was looking forward to going out to dinner at Vikings. You can not go wrong on any day with yummy meats drenched in sauces that you cook on your own little fire, at your table. I thought of it as a picnic of sorts.
I know many people don’t agree with or understand the celebration of Valentines Day, simply…the meaning for the day is different for everyone. I don’t think we “need” one special day to celebrate love just as I don’t believe we need a Mothers Day, Fathers Day, Grandparents Day and all those other days. You either choose to celebrate or you go on with your day.
We don’t make a major event out of it. There is usually a small exchange of gifts of sorts and always a special dinner. We both enjoy it.
After our dinner at Vikings we decided to go to the Japanese grocery store, Universe and walk around for a little bit and see if there was anything we wanted to purchase. We bought some yummy Japanese Italian Garlic Bread, a bottle of Blueberry Wine and a few other small items. Daniel went out ahead of me and got the car and was going to meet me outside in the car.
I was walking along, it had been a warmer day so snow melted and then the evening quickly got cooler and the temps froze all that melted snow. As I was walking across the cross walk….the ice was terrible. I went flying. At first I thought I broke my leg or at least my knee. I’ve never fallen like that on ice in my life. I protected my face and head.
The worst pain came from my right ankle, which smashed the ground and then of course my right knee as it was driven into the ground. I cried. It hurt, still hurts. It was kind of funny. As I lay on the ground crying, Japanese people stood there, looked at me and then walked away. Anyways, Daniel got out of the car as quickly as he could.
It certainly was the event to pretty much end the night, and not in a happy way either. I have swelling and my knee is cut. I am going to keep an eye on it and decide in the morning if I should really go to the hospital or not. I am sure all I will be is very stiff, soar and terribly bruised! We shall see!
I bought Daniel a huge heart shaped box of chocolates that he really wanted, bought him a small box of Japanese chocolates that I purchased out in town and then I baked him a 3 tier mini heart shaped devils food cake with fluffy frosting!! Yum
My love is always thoughtful and got me a few wonderful gifts that I appreciate very much! One gift that was not shown in any of the pictures was a video game for my Nintendo 3DS.

Welcome to this weeks edition of Aloha Friday!
My Question This Week Is:
What Is Your Favorite Electronic Gadget? Examples; Your phone, iPad, iPod…ect.
My Answer Is:
I honestly have to say my Nintendo 3DS! In close 2nd would be my iPod-Touch. I got the Nintendo 3DS for Christmas and just recently got around to playing with it. I am a gamer, yes…even at 32 and I love it. I see the 3DS as more for adult rather than children. Here in Japan I see people of all ages walking around with them.
Gizmos & Gadgets!
| December 28, 2011 | Posted by thesocialfrog under Christmas |
How was your Christmas? Did you get what you wanted/wished/hoped for this year? I got that and them some! Hubby spoiled me rotten and I think I must have been a very good girl this year. Did you receive any kind of gizmo or gadget this year or do you just not do the electronics thing for one reason or another? Here at our house we love all electronics and tend to ask for at least one each at Christmas & sometimes we get more!
This year my BIG wish was for the 27-inch desktop iMac. My Gateway laptop that I’ve had for a few years was starting to act funny this year and it is not it’s normal self, although still functions, not sure for how much longer. I do a lot with photo’s & web design among other things. We’ve talked about a Mac for a while but held back for a few reasons in the past such as money & me being accustomed to Windows PC’s.
I did get it for Christmas! I love it. Although a little bit of a challenge, I am always up for those and love to learn. Here I am opening it on Christmas morning!

I really am enjoying it! Like I said, very different for me since I’ve been a Windows kinda gal for a LONG time. I am sure it will soon be second nature to me! Do you own an iMac? What do you love about it or any Mac?
When I first heard about Amazon coming out with a new Kindle, the Kindle Touch I did not put much thought into it and wrote it off as something not of interest to me. I’ve upgraded every time a new one has come out for various reasons and because I wanted to. The last upgrade was a need though because I wanted the 3G as well as Wifi being & living overseas and I do not regret that. I ended up falling in-love with it and the idea of a touch screen and since I own and love my iPad & iPod Touch, I knew it would be something I would take to easily. Here I am after opening the package on Christmas!

I love it and have already registered it, all my books are on there and a new 1st book to read on it this weekend! I love Touch technology. I take no issue with it having no back light. It is meant to be an ereader. Paper books don’t come with a built in light either folks! I like using my ereader as just that…an ereader!
My next electronic gift was something I had no idea at all I was going to get. Did not even talk about wanting it/getting it for Christmas. I am thrilled though because I did want it but did not voice it to hubby! We talked about how much fun it could/would be & we tried it out at a Target before we moved to Japan. The Nintendo 3DS! Yes, I love video gaming of all sorts from the computer to PC to consoles and handheld ones! It really is cool, you should check it out! Here I am, really surprised!

Such fun gifts!
Daniel asked for what I consider an interesting gift this year. A shortwave Transceiver. He has been wanting one for a few years but really really wanted it this year, so I got it for him and he is happy!
