Blogging From A To Z Challenge: Umi

Today’s Letter Is U

Welcome to the A To Z Blogging Challenge for the month of April. I’ve not participated in anything like this before but thought it might be fun. I’ve decided to go with a “theme”. My theme is Japanese. I currently live in Japan and I thought it would be interesting to pick a word or place and ”teach” it to you in Japanese.

Umi In English Is: Ocean

Japanese Symbol For Umi: 海

Going to the Umi, is my most favorite place to be, no matter where I am on this planet. I’ve been spoiled for a long time, getting to live in places that put me close or right on top of them. Growing up in Rhode Island, our favorite Umi was in Galilee, Rhode Island. I have some very fond memories from there.

When we moved to Maine, I found my favorite Umi there, Ried State Park. When I married and the military moved us away, my choice was to go to a beachy place and we headed to Corpus Christi, Texas. My favorite Umi there aside from Padre Island was Port Aransas, the whole town is beachy there and it was my favorite place to go.

Then we moved to Florida. My most favorite Umi there is St.Augustine Beach. Love the town too, such a beautiful beachy area in general. So, I am still on the search for my favorite Umi here in Japan. I’ve been to one, last year, during the Salmon Festival. It is called Mutsu Bay. It was a darker, chilly day, very cloudy and pictures I took did it no justice. There is something to be said when you are on the sand, looking around and you are surrounded by beautiful mountains! Here is a picture from our visit to the Umi there. Do you have a favorite Umi?

  1. My favorite Umi is on the coast of Northern Oregon. Many happy memories of jogging on the beach with my dog, sitting around bonfires with friends and having so much space it doesn’t even make sense…

  4. I live near the north Oregon coast so I suppose those are my favorite beaches…but they are usually cold and windy! I remember going clam digging and the wind was so bad we had to go single file on the beach so as to break the wind! Peter Iredale Beach would probably have to be my favorite…but Short Sands is wonderful…and of course Cannon Beach, Indian Beach…any beach that doesn’t make me get caught by the tide! Fear of drowning has always been a major force in my life! stopping by from A to Z
