If you are not familiar with this POS named Jarred Harrell you can read about him HERE. Back in October of 2009, a little girl named Somer Thompson went missing walking home from school, she was 7.
This took place around where I live and it really rocked the community and changed people around here for the better I think. I have no idea why people would ever think this could not happen here but I guess some people are totally oblivious to all the other crap that happens daily like stabbings, rapes, robbery and the list goes on. It is not safe here.
I was away in El Salvador when news broke of finding little Somer’s body in a Georgia landfill, only days after her disappearance which meant to me it had to be someone local and close to where she lived.
About 2 months ago, maybe a little less Harrell was named as a person of interest although at the time they were not ready to say he murdered her. Instead he was arrested on child pornography charges for pictures he had on his computer and on his digital camera. SICK.
Apparently the pictures were of young children, a few his family knew. I could not believe a statement his father had given about how when Harrell was younger he had found child pornography in his room but did nothing about it, he thought it was a phase Harrell was going through. Child porn is NOT a phase and should never be looked at as normal.
The whole thing makes me so sick, the poor children he hurt before he even got to Somer. I honestly do not know how he can sleep at night. So today we saw on the news that there was going to be a news conference with breaking news in the Somer Thompson case.
I immediately knew they were going to charge him, apparently they have tons of evidence, DNA and Harrell admitting things. I watched the conference and it made me shutter and I really wonder what Somers last hours were like. I pray for her sake that whatever happened, happened quickly. She did not deserve this.
A little while ago Somer’s mother, Diena Thompson had a news conference which surprised me a little but I know she has been waiting for this moment since her daughter vanished. I know there will be those of you out there that watched along with me, that will think it was odd of her to not be crying her eyes out and falling over herself. YOU are not her and most likely have never been in her place and I hope you never are.
She has been through a lot, has kept Somer in the media and has been fighting hard to seek justice, I am sure this has made her a little numb along the way. I am sure her pain & sorrow is as raw as the first day. We all grieve in different ways and you could see some relief in her eyes and face as she answered questions. I wish her peace and comfort.
Now comes the trial which she must endure, the big question is: Will they seek the death penalty? The state made it perfectly clear this morning that this case calls for the death penalty but we shall see.
I personally believe that if Harrell did this, than he should pay however the state decides best. He should at least never see the light of day again. He is a sick and very twisted individual, there are thousands more just like him in our community, your community. For the most part they are hiding behind their computers and other forums of media in their homes, keeping it all a secret.
It is so unfortunate that the local media is calling what happened to Somer as a “death”, no what happened to Somer was MURDER. It is so sad that it takes a murder of a once innocent child to find the sick F**K who has been hiding in his/her home.
Another thing that creeps me out about this guy was that he worked across the street from where I lived this summer. I had family here for a while, it could have just as easily been my little sister.
What can we do? I am contemplating this question right now. How can we make our communities safer? The local police told us today they have so many cases of child pornography to get to here in the local area, sounds like they do not offer any solutions either…It’s like the war on drugs, we will never win it but will always be contending with it.

That is rough. It is so senseless to. I am always boggled by such things that I hear in the news. We are getting ready to adopt and I am starting to wonder how do I keep this little girl safe once she is mine to protect…You have put in writing what so many are thinking…thanks for sharing.

Sometimes the perp ends up dead.
In 1974, I was abducted, beaten and raped by a recidivist, pedophile predator with a history of sex crimes and prison time. Although he was arrested and indicted for what he did to me, he never went to trial. He never went to trial because he was brutally beaten to death in the streets of Providence, Rhode Island in 1975. 35 years later, no one has ever been charged with his murder.
The novel, Men in My Town is my story. A story inspired by actual events.
